Sentence demanded in political trial against Joke Kaviaar not astonishing and calls for resistance!
A response by Joke Kaviaar to the demand of the prosecution in the political trial of January 8, 2013
During the political trial against me, the prosecutor demanded a six months prison sentence for what she calls 'incitement'. Is that a lot? Yes. Is that an outrage? Yes. Was it to be expected? Yes.
The public prosecution, represented by prosecutor Gerda Visser, proved itself very predictable in the requisitory. Her story was built up around RARA (Revolutionary Anti-Racist Action), the attack on the house of Aad Kosto in 1991 and, as she (or rather the AIVD's report 'The Fire of Resistance' she quoted) put it, the growing resistance over the past few years against the 'asylum' policy.
'A breeding ground for extremism' is what the articles that I write are, according to the prosecutor. Well, if she means by extremism that it stands for people not taking it anymore and coming into action, then yes please, I would like to contribute to the breeding ground for that. And I am not the only one. If a price has to be paid because of calling for resistance, than this is a continuation of the price that people have to pay for their attempts to find a better life in the Netherlands. So... Doing six months for words? It is pure mind control and worthy of a dictatorship. But it is nothing compared to spending unlimited time in border prisons over and over again and a life without a future!
In a time and a country in which the ruling subsequent governments and politicians and the compliant media scarcely spend a word on the penalization of 'illegality', a concept that is not even open for debate, we should not be surprised that this repression is extended to a next group of people: the 'asylum extremists'.
The mass media are keeping the trial quiet, at least until the public prosecution announces on January 22nd 2013 that I have been convicted on charges of …. to …. Then they will be willing to immediately spread the press release.
In a time and a country in which animal rights activists have been labeled as extremists and portrayed as dangerous by AIVD, police and the law for many years already, in order to drive a wedge between those who take direct action and the more moderate activists, and in which the prosecution demands a 15 months prison sentence for liberators of minks, we should not be surprised that this repression is extended to a next group of people: the 'asylum extremists'.
In a time and a country in which a terrorist law is in force in which is incorporated as a 'terrorist intent' “to force a government or international organization to do something, not to do or allow something in a illegal way”, we should not be surprised that this repression is extended to a next group of people: the 'asylum extremists'.
It was predictable: the terrorist laws would not be evaluated, but will be upheld as a useful tool against radical activists.
The question is: who is next?
The prosecutor of the National Prosecution Counsel did exactly that which is the extension of the preceding investigation that took place entirely on behalf of information gathering for the AIVD, which becomes apparent by the more than three-hundred pictures taken during the house search, the confiscation of things such as a navigation system and an agenda, the diligent and failed attempts to break encrypted files on USB sticks, and the claiming of all data from the host of my website, including over a 4700 e-mails;
The prosecutor of the National Prosecution Counsel also did exactly that which is the extension of the suspicion of having a terrorist intent during the three day period of custody, the house search, the whole investigation, through which extra powers, entailed by terrorist laws, could be used;
The prosecutor just had to bring forward an extreme demand to justify all extreme measures, to hold on to the extremist body of thought of the public prosecution, the Dienst Nationale Recherche (=Dutch sort of FBI), Unit Counter Terrorism and Activism, and AIVD, which are all based on the idea that I have to be suppressed;
The prosecutor had to bring forward an extreme demand to defend all extreme measures, that are taken against migrants, against relentless criticism and the call for resistance.
If the public prosecution thinks it can break me with a cell, they forget: A prison is only a different place to continue the struggle, as is shown by locked up migrants that burned down the border prison in Vincennes near Paris in June 2008. Each word a spark!
